Yep, still designing!

So I although I have about as much creativity in me right now as my cat, I am still trying to design when I can.  So, I made y’all a little 4th of July goody, so maybe you’ll still love me if I ever get my mojo back :)

Have a great day everyone!!!

Another full day…

Man, Alex is going to be bummed beyond belief when he finds out I plan to hang out at home tomorrow!  He has had quite the week since returning from Canada.  Monday was a whole afternoon of playing with the neighbors, Tuesday was fun with his Auntie Megan, yesterday was the amusement park with his friend Sarah and today we went berry-picking with his god-mommy Toni.  Phew.  I’m beat.  You’d never guess that I’m 36 weeks pregnant and keeping up with this kid.  Of course, he’s really bummed that I haven’t built him that geo track I’ve been promising, but I am not looking forward to getting down on the living room floor to do that!  HA!

I wish I had gotten some pics today of the berry picking - but I didn’t bring my camera.  My little point and shoot is dead since Alex had his way with it about a year ago and I’ve yet to replace it.  Since I want to practice my photography, I should be lugging around the D50 everywhere I go anyways, but I figure that the extra weight will make me truly topple.  So, no pictures to share today and that really just makes this post sorta boring, so I thought I’d spice it up a little with some info about my friend Emily!

I’ve known Emily for a pretty long time - known who she was anyways.  See, I used to be a competitive rifle shooter for about 10 years.  Started when I was 11 and going to matched, we would meet other kids from around the state.  Being one of the few girls, I often compared myself to the other girls competing.  I was a decent enough shooter and Emily was really good.  We never really spoke since we were from ‘rival’ clubs until we went to Colorado together for Junior Olympics in like 1994.  We were at the same qualifying match and I beat her out for my spot to go for air rifle and I think she went for smallbore.  Anyways - the point is, once upon a time, I beat her heheheheh :)

A couple of years go by and I transfer to Norwich University my sophomore year, the same year that Emily starts there.  We are two of four girls on the team and bonded pretty quickly, I think.  The other two girls were sort of weird and Emily and I were the more normal of the two, I guess you could say.  We had fun at practice, wore bandanas, and made wife beaters to wear under our outfits that said our names (silly made up names like ’shmirini’ and ’shmemily’ and ‘ghetto queens’ cause we thought we were cool like that.  We often got in trouble by our coach for not practicing, laughing and giggling in between shots, and making fun of the boys.  She was often my ride to school in Vermont from home, and is one of the few people from college that I actually keep in touch with.
So what is my reason for sharing with you this trip down shooting memory lane?  Well, dears - Emily is going to be going to her second Olympic games in a month and I am so proud of her.  She went to Athens and finished 9th - heartbreaking really, because 9th place means you can’t compete in a shoot out, which is how you get a chance to have a medal.  This year, I am crossing my fingers she gets into that shootout!  There is even a bio of her on the nbc olympics website - is that not awesome???  And remember…once upon a time I could beat her :)

So make sure you root for her to beat all those europeans and asians!  The sport is truly dominated by Korea, China and Germany, so the fact that Emily can stand up with those girls and give them a run for their money is awesome.  Go Shmem!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another hot one…

So today is supposed to be another hot day here in New England.  I am not a warm weather person.  I love 70’s weather - warm enough to go outside and play, but cool enough that when you’re just standing supervising the kids, you don’t sweat profusely.  I was never an outdoorsy kid, but i want alex to enjoy being outside (which he does totally love) so we go out as much as possible.  Today we are heading to ’special park’.  Special Park is a local amusement park that we have a season pass to that Alex LOVES.  We usually go with my friend Tery and her daughter Sarah, who is 9 months younger than Alex.    They actually have a little beach there and so we’re bringing the sand toys and plan to have the kids play on the beach.

So didn’t go to the movies last night. Instead, I went over to Toni’s and we made nachos, watched this movie and helped Toni’s brother’s girlfriend time her contractions. The poor girl was in so much pain and discomfort.  Yesterday was her due date and she is so tiny and her belly is so huge, a physicist probably would be baffled as to how she stayed upright on a regular basis.  She ended up heading to the hospital at 10pm last night, so I’m hoping that she’s sleeping now with a little baby girl in a bassinet next to her hospital bed right now :)

The movie was okay.  We weren’t expecting fabulous.  Freddie Highmore was the lead boy, who apparently is a twin because he played two parts.  Much like the Dark is Rising, it baffled me as to why they made these people American.  I believe that the books are based in England, and all three of the lead characters (Freddie Highmore playing two of the three roles) are not American.  It just throws you off, I think, especially with kids trying to do a different accent.

Okay, so time to get ready for the day - and tonight it’s duh duh duh…. time to work!  That’s right, I’m commiting to being creative tonight, no matter what it is!  So hopefully you’ll be seeing some new goodies from me in the next few days!  Have a great one!!!

So yeah, I am going to try blogging again on a regular basis. I need to keep better track of my life and this blog is really the way that I should do it. I think up until now, I’ve seen it as a business tool, but since my business is on the back burner right now, we’ll go heavy on the life stuff and light on the business stuff :) Maybe it’ll spark my creativity to start being open again too, here’s hoping.

Less than a month til McLovin’ is with us. He’s been getting way too big for my belly and I’m entering that really uncomfortable part of pregnancy where I feel like there is an alien trying to bust out of my stomach. Gordon finds it entertaining - me, not so much. Reassuring of course, but I wish this kid would chill a little more often, LOL. We are getting close to settling on a name, but I think we’ll be keeping it to ourselves until we see the little guy, since we like to keep our options open. :)

I have some ideas for projects that I want to do and get up at SBG but I can’t seem to find the focus to sit and work on them. One thing I am thinking of doing is silhouettes. I did one of Alex and I think it came out pretty cute. I would offer a service for custom pieces, but I’m not sure that anyone would be interested - would yoU? I also need practice first - I should ask my CT about it. They’ve always got good input about these things :) So that’s where my digi stuff stands right now. A couple ideas but no execution of them. Maybe I’ll find some time tonight after I have a little unwind time with my best friend Toni. I think we might see a movie, although none of them are really calling out to me. I sort of want to see “Wanted” but I don’t like Angelina Jolie. Ugh - dilemmas! heheheh :)

In paper-business news I am very excited to have a paper collection coming out with Prima at the CHA summer show. I haven’t heard anything about sneaks or anything being shared yet, but hopefully once that’s allowed I’ll be able to share a little bit here on the blog. There is a whole bunch of new stuff going on with Prima and Hybrid, so you’ll have to keep a lookout for more of that. All of us designers are under strict rules not to say a peep about it, but I think it’s going to be good!!!

We just got home on Sunday from a week at the Lake. Can you believe at 34 weeks pregnant I traveled 12 hours by car to a remote island in a lake in Canada just to hang out with family? Yeah, I can’t either! LOL - most people were pretty surprised. I figured I’d be a wuss if I didn’t go, and we sat home all week instead, so we went and it was good :) I am trying to learn more about photography and my camera and maybe someday get out of auto mode. We started shooting in RAW and I LOVE it. Don’t know why anyone with a DSLR and computer skills wouldn’t shoot RAW. So I have a picture show for you today, yay! :) Here are my fave images from the trip - some of the wildlife and some of the wild fam :)

First, this is Mr. Heron. He takes up residence on the rock across from our dock for most of the summer. It’s not where his nest is or anything, but he likes to hang out there and wait for fishermen to deposit fish guts for him :) Fishing season hadn’t opened yet while we were there, so he was sort of out of luck and had to go find his own fish…

And then there was this cutie little froggy that was jumping across the steps up to the cottage and I caught him! He was maybe an inch big - I should have included something in the picture to show how little he was!

And this is the end of the island, a nice little point with these chairs that my MIL put out there. We had this little plastic bench out there but there was a big storm one night and it was gone, possibly sunken to the bottom of the lake for some fishes to claim as their home. It’s a beautiful view of the sunset when you sit there.

And now onto the Alexander show… we set up his little pool on the dock and he would decide he was tired and do this…

sleepy-alex

Sometimes though, we’d get him in the water and Pop Pop even got him to swim by himself with a noodle! (He had his boat coat on too, of course)

And look at this action shot of Alex catching a little rock bass! They live under the dock, so the kids love to fish off the dock and then catch the fish and watch them swim around in a bucket :)

I, personally am not a fan of the canoe - too tippy for me, I prefer motor boats or kayaks, but Alex LOVED the canoe, especially with his Mop Mop and Pop Pop…

And then there’s always Alex and Daddy being goofy…

Wrigley the dock dog :)

On a trip to town, Alex got to see a big freight train. The engine was running, but after waiting fifteen minutes, they still hadn’t left yet!

And sometimes he would just curl up with froggy and enjoy ‘watching the world go by’…

Have a great day!

NSD - 40% OFF @ SBG

Hey everyone! If you’re looking for some cheap MFD goodies, I’ve got a 40% off sale going on at SBG this weekend - Saturday and Sunday. Also a new little paper pack is up and a chat with me tomorrow night (Sat. May 3) at 10PM EST in the SBG Chat room and I’ve got treats as always!

So I’ve been trying to find my creativity as it seems to have completely left me these days. I’m thinking McLovin’ is sucking it all up so that kid better be really creative, LOL :) I took a trip to the local art store the other day and settled on some watercolor pencils and crayons and I’ve been working on using those with some hand-drawn pieces. I did some stuff that I wanted to scan and put to use for my NSD stuff, but it was not meant to be as my scanner hates watercolors. It looked good going in, but up close absolutely HORRIBLE. Disappointment is an understatement here. Anyways, dh tried photographing them and I wasn’t happy with those either, so I’m not sure what I’ll do. Maybe see if my parent’s scanner could be more compatible - theirs is pretty nice. Anyways - I took a couple of pictures of little pieces I did that I’m not sure what I’m going to do with yet - maybe I can get a little collection together and put it up on Etsy and see what happens. :) So here they are, Ms. Giraffe and Mr. Elephant :)

So…

as you know, I am back at SBG but haven’t explained why. Also, I still have lots of products up at Prima. Well, things are changing at PrimaHybrid - we are going to be emphasizing much more of the hybrid there, so I am able to sell my solely digital products at another store. Of course, I wouldn’t want to be anywhere other than SBG, it felt so much like home, I was practically homesick while I was gone. The SBG store is growing so much right now, it really is such a great place to be and I’m so happy to be there. So, over the next few weeks most of my products at Prima will be migrating back to their original home at SBG :)

So why did I even leave SBG in the first place? I have been trying to ‘crack’ the paper industry for a while now - I have designed for paper companies, but never anything that I felt was truly mine, that I could talk about, or had my name on it. Prima has given me that opportunity. At winter CHA, I had a crop of products that I am so proud of.

mfd1

mfd2

There are clear stamps, overlays, cardboard and chipboard shapes and the ‘is for’ labels that I’ve had digitally available, but a little different - fonts are different. The layouts on the display there were done by me (the one on the left) and my friend Celeste - she did the rest. She’s such a good scrapbooker, i am so jealous! She’s a simple gal and I’m very lucky that we’re friends and she lives close to me so could help out :) hehehe….

So that’s that… I am currently busy trying to work on hybrid stuff for Prima, real paper products for Prima, and digital stuff for SBG and Songbird Ave - nevermind living life and being pregnant with a three year old running around :) Balance is key right now and I’m struggling to find mine. I think being back at SBG though, with the support of the other designers, the amazing crew, Becky and Maya is really good for me.  :)

Fifth’s update

Sorry I didn’t update sooner - the doc called last week and let me know that I’m immune to fifth’s disease so it is no longer a concern for me, yay!  We were very relieved to find that out, of course, and I’m just hoping that the rest of this pregnancy is incredibly uneventful :)   When I was pregnant with Alex, we called him lil’ peanut.  It was cute and he looked like a little peanut in his first ultrasound.  So we’ve been trying to think of something to call this one - his first u/s he looked like a blob - Gordon didn’t want to call him blob though.  So I sort of took to calling him ‘new baby’ and sometimes ‘mean baby’ when it was making me vomit all the time.  But Gordon didn’t like those either.  I think we’ve settle on a name though - McLovin’.  If you’ve seen the movie Superbad, you’ll get the reference.  We just think it’s silly and cute and I like hearing people laugh when I call the baby that.  :)

that I am home again at SBG!  I am so excited that Maya and the girls have taken me back into the stop at SBG, I have so missed being a part of the SBG action!  So, my first ‘new’ product up in my store is…

To celebrate my return to SBG , I’ve done a Random Bag of Scrap! This is full of a bunch of different random goodies - some that will ONLY be available in this bag! Download is over 200 MB, so I hope that you enjoy this bag, only available March 15-18, 2008 here at SBG!!

Please note that there are no St. Patrick’s Day items contained in this bag - I was just feeling festive with my packaging!

And as a bonus, if you buy this bag, I will email you a coupon for an extra deal after the grab bag is available!
